The Hyde School Campuses
Each of the two boarding school campuses enrolls 287 students in grades 9 through 12, with limited post graduate student acceptances. Boarding students are housed in dormitories with faculty members in residence; older students share in dormitory responsibilities. The Health Centers are staffed by registered nurses. Though the programs on the two campuses are virtually identical, there are differences in the physical plants. Bath, Maine
The first Hyde School was established in 1966 at the Bath, Maine campus, on the early twentieth century estate of shipbuilder John S. Hyde. Classrooms and offices are located in the historic Hyde Mansion, its academic wing and in the Chase Wing, of our new Wheeler Library. Students are housed in seven dormitories. The Bath campus is sited on more than 145 acres and includes three playing fields, an all-weather track, indoor tennis courts, and basketball courts in the gymnasium-field house.
The 2006 Joseph W. Gauld Student Life and Athletic Center Complex expansion to the existing gymnasium-field house, totaling 11,000 square feet, provides an entirely new caliber of facilities, including the Health Center, book store, a spacious student union and recreational activity center, wrestling center, weight room, and greatly expanded locker room facilities. The gracious foyer, which faces the restored 1915 Sunken Garden, provides a comfortable gathering space, complete with working fireplace.
The 11,000-square-foot Student Learning Center, begun in late 2006, houses a 5,400-square-foot library, resource center, computer laboratory, and six additional classrooms. The Student Union houses a 600-seat performing arts space, a 350-seat dining hall, and the campus mailroom. The student activities barn is a focal point for art and sculpture displays.
Visiting parents can be accommodated at the Renewal Center, a beautiful on-campus conference center and dormitory for Family Learning Weekends and retreats. A spiritual center overlooking the duck pond offers a quiet place for meditation.
The coastal city of Bath, Maine is a 45-minute drive from Portland International Jetport and a 2½- hour drive north from Boston.
