Founded in 1813, Kimball Union Academy is the 15th oldest boarding school in the country. Kimball Union’s unique location in the Upper Connecticut River Valley and its proximity to Dartmouth College have long made it the preferred choice for both boarding and day students seeking an educational experience to develop the whole person as scholar, athlete, artist and global citizen.
The strong four-year course of study prepares students for programs in major colleges and universities. Over 100 courses are offered including 15 advanced placement courses across all disciplines. The average class size is 11 students with a student-faculty ratio of 6:1. Our unique environmental studies program includes a cross curricular approach, an AP offering and a greenhouse, and a 750-acre tract of land on nearby Snow Mountain that provides an outdoor “classroom.” Performing and visual arts are offered both within the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities in the spectacular Flickinger Arts Center. Sports offered include hockey, football, lacrosse, Nordic and alpine skiing, field hockey, basketball, softball, baseball soccer, mountain biking, equestrian, rugby, tennis and cross country. Kimball Union competes in the Lakes Region League, among others.
The main campus covers over 800 acres of rolling hillside in the picturesque village of Meriden just 13 miles from Dartmouth College and its resources. Facilities include a magnificent dining hall, a beautiful arts center, a science building with a new environmental studies wing, a state-of-the art hockey arena with seasonal turf, athletic center, new fitness center, library, computer, language and science labs, student center and indoor pool. There are 9 dormitories housing from 5 to 50 students.
Kimball Union’s highly qualified and dedicated faculty is committed to serving our students and families. Our strong advisor system provides students with support for their academic and social needs. Recent initiatives include expanded student life services, a peer mentorship program and more student leadership opportunities.
The Academy is committed to fulfilling its mission to “discover with each student the right path to academic mastery, to creativity and to responsibility.” Members of our community are guided by our Honor Code, which reflects our core value and promotes honesty, compassion and mutual respect.
