School Notes:
  • The Hyde School Campuses
  • Each of the two boarding school campuses enrolls 220 students in grades 9 through 12, with limited post graduate student acceptances. Boarding students are housed in dormitories with faculty members in residence; older students share in dormitory responsibilities. The Health Centers are staffed by registered nurses.
  • Though the programs on the two campuses are virtually identical, there are differences in the physical plants. Woodstock, Connecticut The Woodstock, Connecticut campus opened in 1996, in response to a growing demand for Hyde’s character-based curriculum. Situated on the grounds of a former Catholic women’s college, the 120-acre campus includes spacious, modern buildings, three- and four-story dormitories and several smaller dorm facilities, two playing fields and a practice field. A new gymnasium, built in 1998, includes weight training and wrestling rooms and basketball courts.
  • The unusual, circular Student Center houses classrooms, the student coffee house, the very large dining hall, and the bookstore. The recent renovation of Annhurst Hall, which contains the media center, classrooms, the College Counseling Office, the Admissions Office and dormitory rooms, included the creation of a high-ceilinged library with beautiful stained glass windows. Westhaver Hall houses classrooms and administrative offices, as well as dormitory rooms. Warren Hall serves as the dormitory for families participating in retreats and Family Weekends.
  • One of the unique features of the Woodstock campus is the Cultural Center that houses a state-of-the-art 1,100-seat theater, formerly the home of the New England Opera Company. The Performing Arts Program benefits from the theater’s sophisticated technical capabilities. The Cultural Center also has a lecture hall, science labs, a computer lab, and administrative offices.
  • In 2007, several free-standing homes for faculty will be constructed on campus. Also planned is a track and field complex, with a six-lane, 400-meter track with areas for the pole vault, shot put, javelin, and high jump, with adjacent restrooms and a concession stand.
  • Set in the rolling farmland of northeastern Connecticut, Woodstock is surrounded by open fields and peaceful woodlands. The campus is a 1 ½- hour commute from Boston, Providence, or Hartford and only 25 miles from the Sturbridge Village exit of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
