- Jill Graf and Nancy Schwartz, teachers of anatomy and art respectively at Conserve School, were selected by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) as part of the inaugural Teachers of the Future Program.
The teachers were selected from a large pool of nominees who inspire academic excellence in students and who serve as opinion leaders among their peers.
The Teachers of the Future were also chosen for their expertise in particular areas— environmentalism, globalism, technology, and equity and justice—which NAIS believes are hallmarks of high-quality education. As two of only 25 teachers chosen nationwide, Graf and Schwartz will lead an online forum designed to share innovative ideas and teaching techniques and will create a demonstration video to inspire others.

Conserve School is an independent, college-preparatory coed boarding high school for top academic students who share an interest and concern for the environment. The challenging curriculum combines traditional subjects with environmental science, technology, and outdoor recreation, preparing all students to become ethical and environmentally sensitive leaders and stewards within their career choice.
Located on 1,200 Audubon-recognized forested acres in northern Wisconsin, the Conserve School campus has over 20 miles of trails and eight lakes that are used for both academic and recreational activities.

Founder James Lowenstine imagined a school that would teach young adults the importance of stewardship and ethical, environmental leadership. Because of his generosity, vision, and dedication to the natural world, Conserve School was founded in 2002 on what was his private estate, encompassing 1,200 wilderness acres in the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods.
Environmental education permeates throughout the Conserve School experience. Project-based learning that blends traditional education with hands-on engagement and problem solving enables students to become directly connected to sustainability issues involving lakes, watersheds, forest ecology and wildlife. Students wade into campus marshes to test water quality for biology class and excavate historical artifacts for archeology class. This style of learning prepares students to be technologically adept, ethical leaders with a respect for both the earth's natural resources and its intrinsic value.
Conserve School's campus is the ideal setting for their environmentally focused curriculum. Recognized as an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary, the campus includes eight lakes and over 20 miles of wooded trails for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Conserve School recognizes that environmental issues require global solutions and actively recruits students from around the world, including Australia, Belarus, Brazil, China, Ecuador, Germany, Honduras, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, Ukraine, and the United States.
